A comparative study using agar and isotonic saline solution in the treatment of infected wounds, in guinea pigs

The hydrogel has been investigated because they maintain the moistening of wound. The purpose of this study is compair the effect of Agar with Isotonic Saline Solution (I.S.S.) on infected wound. We used 32 guinea pigs with infected wound by Staphylococcus aureus. The incision has 2cm of lenght and 1cm of deep, and was inoculated 1ml of solution in the subcutaneous tissue. The wound was closed with "Prolene 2-0"®. After 5 days the guinea pigs were divided in 2 groups. We concluded that the cicatrization of infected wounds cared with "Agarol"® were more effficient than with I.S.S.
